Lugano’s Plan ₿ is a joint initiative between the City of Lugano and Tether launched in 2022. Its mission is to accelerate the adoption and integration of Bitcoin and blockchain technology as a foundation for transforming the city’s financial infrastructure and economy.
Through this initiative, Lugano aims to scale the use of Bitcoin and blockchain across all aspects of urban life — from public services and business payments to education and technology innovation. A key component of the plan is the implementation of the Bitcoin Lightning Network to enable fast, low-cost payments for private merchants and residents alike.
Lugano’s Plan ₿ also promotes decentralization, supports sustainable Bitcoin mining facilities in the region, and works to position Lugano as a global hub for digital finance and blockchain innovation.
